Wedding Date: 30/10/2010
Location: Everton Park, QLD
Dane and I were introduced by his brother, Beech, whom I knew through work. I had always commented on how handsome Dane looked from the photos Beech had shown me so one day, much to my embarrassment, Beech invited Dane into work to meet the girl who had a crush on him without my knowing! Obviously it worked out for the best, but I still haven't forgiven him for making me blush!
Dane and I were in Melbourne for a long weekend and Dane had planned to propose on a hot air balloon ride over the city. Though, due to bad weather, the balloon ride was cancelled so Dane improvised by dropping to one knee as we were on our way to dinner. I was so shocked that I couldn't even answer! I loved the way he proposed as it was just us and caught me off guard!
I ordered my dress through Brides of Brisbane almost 11 months before our wedding date. It was strapless with a sweetheart neckline, had a full skirt with tiered lace and a black sash around my waist. I had it taken up to a ballerina length so you could see my shoes.
I wore an oversized fascinator that my grandmother helped make and black satin heels to match my dress.
and Groomsmen's Attire
Dane and his best man, Beech, both wore black suits with white shirts and skinny, black ties.
Dresses & Accessories:
I let my bridesmaids choose their own dresses. As they are all so different, the last thing I wanted was for them to have to wear something they weren't comfortable in. The only conditions I gave were that they be black and a cocktail length. They all looked beautiful and I think it was one of the best decisions I made for the day!
My bridesmaids and I had large bouquets of roses with Baby's Breath and Dusty Miller, white and lavender for myself and white for the girls. Dane and Beech's buttonholes were also roses, lavender for Dane and white for Beech, and my flower girls carried baskets of white, miniature roses and Baby's Breath.
Theme & Colours:
Our wedding colours were black and white with hints of purple.
Venue & Details:
We were married at the Broadway Chapel in Woolloongabba. Our ceremony was short and sweet with vows that we collaborated on together with our celebrant.
Venue & Details:
Our reception was held at Victoria Park Function Centre and I couldn't recommend it more highly! I experience nothing but the most professional, courteous and accommodating service during the entire planning process and the room looked amazing on the night. We had a lot of 'out-of-town' guests that appreciated the beautiful city views.
We hired two vintage London taxis from A Golden Roller. They suited our theme perfectly and were a nod to Dane's British heritage.
As our wedding was the day before Halloween we choose to hand out trick-or-treat bags that also doubled as place cards. I don't think there were many bags that were still full at the end of the night!
Dane chose a giant cupcake for us to cut on the night. It was delicious!
Our friend Conan accepted DJ duties for the night and he could not have been more fantastic! He played a mix of our favourite songs, including the Beatles which was in memory of Dane's mother.
We honeymooned in Tokyo and had a fantastic time exploring the city, shopping and eating local cuisine. It was the most fun we had ever had!
Our dear friends surprised us at the reception by performing a dance to Wham's Wake Me Up! It was honestly one of the funniest and happiest moments of our lives and we have not stopped talking about it since.
Brides to Be:
Have fun! I can honestly say that by not taking ourselves too seriously we had the time of our lives and no regrets.
